My new dog has non-itchy thinning fur patches. Could it be mange?

While mange is possible, other diseases such as allergies for example need to also be considered and these are treated differently. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You are very kind to take in Bear There are many reasons for him to have hair loss. The contagious mite is scabies and it is VERY itchy. If he isn't scratching it may not be mange from scabies. There is another mite called demodex that is non-contagious. Your other dogs can not get it from him. I would check him for fleas. His hair loss could also be from a poor diet and he just needs more time with a good diet. He could also have allergies or a skin infection. The other skin condition he could have that is contagious would be ring worm (fungus). I recommend taking him to the Vet this week to rule out contagious skin diseases and get him started on proper medications! Good luck!

I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. In the meantime, if she appears to be scratching or licking at it, you can use an e-collar to try to prevent further injury. Good luck!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is a possibility Colt has a skin mite called demodex (mange). These mites are microscopic and don’t cause the pet to scratch. I recommend taking him to a vet where they can scrape his skin and look for the mite with a microscope. They can also look for a secondary bacterial infection from the mite. Once they have a diagnosis they can prescribe him the correct medications to treat his skin. Good luck and kisses to Colt!

Generally this is easily diagnosed with a physical examination and basic cytology. I recommend that you have Bertha evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They can start therapy for her if this is confirmed. They can also give her something to improve her comfort and relief some of that itchiness. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Tex! That would be too quick or mites to cause a bald spot. It could be hair loss from the tussle or a wound that healed. To be sure though the new oral flea and tick preventatives Nexgard, Simparica and Bravecto also get scabies. I would contact your Vet and start it. If he as mange from the Wombat it will get rid of it with out much effort on your part. Also be sure that his Rabies is up to date and consider boostering it. Have a good day!

Hello. Cocoa may have sarcoptic or demodectic mange, both common in puppies & very itchy. Your veterinarian can diagnose this very quickly with a simple skin scrape & once a diagnosis is made, appropriate treatment started. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
