My dog has a bald spot after wombat contact. Is it mange? What to do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You are very kind to take in Bear There are many reasons for him to have hair loss. The contagious mite is scabies and it is VERY itchy. If he isn't scratching it may not be mange from scabies. There is another mite called demodex that is non-contagious. Your other dogs can not get it from him. I would check him for fleas. His hair loss could also be from a poor diet and he just needs more time with a good diet. He could also have allergies or a skin infection. The other skin condition he could have that is contagious would be ring worm (fungus). I recommend taking him to the Vet this week to rule out contagious skin diseases and get him started on proper medications! Good luck!

Hello. Cocoa may have sarcoptic or demodectic mange, both common in puppies & very itchy. Your veterinarian can diagnose this very quickly with a simple skin scrape & once a diagnosis is made, appropriate treatment started. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

If Penelope has had treatment for mites and the other lesions resolved but not this one, this could be a separate problem such as ringworm, different mite or a benign tumor. I would recommend having the veterinarian look at this to help determine what the cause could be. Different medication would be needed for ringworm and if it is a tumor, it is likely what we call a histiocytoma, which is common in young dogs and resolves on its own. I hope this helps! Areas of hairloss can be due to so many different things. That being said, I do think you are correct to be concerned about mange. It is very common in that breed. Mange is not always itchy. The best thing to do is to get him to your vet for an exam. It would be a good idea to have him examined anyway since he is a new pet to you. I hope this helps. Best wishes!

While mange is possible, other diseases such as allergies for example need to also be considered and these are treated differently. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Anget! Anget should see a Veterinarian due to the severity of his skin condition. Possible causes are sarcoptic mange (contagious mite), demodectic mange (non-contagious mite), skin infection from yeast or bacteria or ring worm. Demodec is easy to treat these days with flea and tick medications like Nexgard and Bravecto. The vet will need to do a skin scrape to diagnose if he has mites and ring worm is cultured and treated with antifungal pills and topical dips. A lot of times even when they have mites they have secondary skin infections that require antibiotics. I don't think there is a a solution that will cure him with out a proper diagnosis first. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
