What are these non-itchy black spots spreading on my poodle's back?

There can be many causes of increased pigmentation in dogs, mostly relating to chronic inflammation. This can be caused by fleas, mange, lice, infections (bacterial or yeast), ringworm, allergies, among others. If the spots seem to be increasing, I recommend that Sophie be evaluated by a veterinarian. Also, make sure she is on a good flea preventative (topicals should not be applied for 3 days before or after bathing to ensure good absorption). While you wait for your vet appointment, you can try a medicated shampoo like Dechra MalAcetic Ultra Shampoo - lather on the skin, let it sit for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Those look like infections on Honey. Generally they are bacterial but ringworm (which humans can get) is possible. If they are in fact bacterial, many times the body will clear them up on its own. If it does not go away or gets worse (or Honey is itchy) take her into the vet. Sometimes dogs just get these infections. Other times it indicates allergies or endocrine disorders. Hi and thanks for posting! Thank you for sending along a picture as well. From your picture, it looks to me like comedones or otherwise known as blackheads which occur when the hair follicle becomes clogged. Usually these can be treated with certain medicated shampoos that contain benzoyl peroxide in them to help flush out the follicle. Be sure to purchase these shampoos from your veterinarian as dogs can be especially sensitive to human shampoos and other human hygiene products. I hope this helps!

This infection may be from bacteria, fungus or both. I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. It's a little odd that it is only on one side of the belly/leg. The rust color looks like saliva staining from your dog licking more frequently. The brown spots are likely clogged pores. I would work with your vet to treat itching (making sure he is on a good-quality flea preventative), food allergies, atopy, etc. You can also ask for a benzoyl peroxide dog shampoo to help flush the pores.

This is probably due to a severe allergy, although it could also be fleas or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat Mia with a high quality flea treatment (e.g. Trifexis or Advantage), then get her to the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try discovering the cause of the allergy. Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair the skin lesions (steroids and antibiotics). simultaneously you should start her on a prescription hypoallergenic diet for at least 2 months. Hopefully you will see some results after all this, if not you and your vet should consider putting her on a long term allergy treatment (Atopica or Apoquel).
