Rescue dog has nipple lumps, won't eat. How can I get her to eat?

This lump on Siu q could be a benign tumor, a cyst, an abscess, or a lipoma. It would be rare for such a young dog to have a malignant tumor, but it is possible. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would take Siu q into the vet today or tomorrow to have this lump examined and diagnosed so it can be treated as needed. As for the lack of appetite and lethargy, those are very general signs of illness in dogs, and it could be caused by systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. Because Siu q is going to see the vet for this lump, I would have a health check done on her as well to diagnose the cause of the lethargy and lack of appetite.

Poor Peyton. I'm concerned she doesn't have a cyst by her nipple, I'm concerned it's a mammary tumor. Those can be common in unspayed dogs, and 50% of them are malignant. If she did have a malignant tumor, it could explain why she isn't eating or drinking. She sounds quite sick, you need to take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am so sorry that Sasha is so ill! Based on your pictures Sasha looks very sick and very thin. Possible causes: infected uterus since she is not spayed, cancer, foreign body (ate something that is stuck in her stomach or intestines), or intestinal parasites. I would need more information about what tests your Vet ran: blood work, stool sample or X-rays of her belly? If those things have not been done then I would recheck with your Vet as soon as possible. An infected uterus and a foreign body are emergency surgeries and can be life saving if done early. If she has cancer the best thing would be to discuss humane euthanasia since Sasha is suffering. I am very sorry and I with you and Sasha the best.

Poor Mini! I see that she isn't spayed, and I would be very concerned that these two bumps around her nipples are mammary tumors. Dogs who are not spayed are prone to developing mammary tumors, and 50% of those tumors are malignant. They will be painful as well, causing her to not want to eat and possibly vomit. The best thing to do is have her seen by a vet as soon as possible. The vet will need to do biopsy of these bumps to diagnose if they are malignant or benign. Should they be malignant, they will need to be removed surgically, and her local lymph nodes will need to be checked to see if there has been localized spread of the cancer. Please take her into a vet.

It is possible something occurred while you were gone to cause the lump. The only way to know for sure is to have her examined by your vet and the lump needs to be aspirated (drained). The lump could be a detona, mass or even an abscess. An abscess can cause pets to have a low grade fever, lack of appetite, and moodiness. It's best to get this treated quickly with your vet and get her on a short course of antibiotics if an abscess is confirmed.

Even if she has tolerated her vaccines well before, she can still develop side effects at any time. Her clinical signs are unlikely to be related to her mammary tumors. I would mention this to your veterinarian tomorrow when she is in for the surgery so that they can run some pre-operative bloodwork to make sure that everything looks right before anesthesia. Have your veterinarian submit the masses to the laboratory so that a diagnosis can be reached. If they turn out to be malignant (only about 50% of them are), feel free to set up a consultation with me for further information on that type of cancer. Good luck! Poor Spazz. I would talk to you vet about the nature of these tumors. Your vet should be able to do a cytology and tell you whether or not they are cancerous and whether they are infected. Your vet will be able to advise whether they need to be surgically removed and whether she needs any antibiotics or pain meds. If your vet thinks it is cancer, I would discuss with them about whether or not they think it has already spread as this may affect your decision on surgery. Your vet will also be able to prescribe her an appetite stimulant if she isn't eating right now. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better really soon.
