Will neutering my dog help stop his jumping, barking, and marking?

Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) and certain testicular tumors can be prevented by neutering dogs. However, dogs can also live happy and normal lives intact. Behavioral problems such as territorial aggression and marking may be reduced by neutering dogs as well. Once neutered, Dante will not behave more like a female, this is a misconception and does not happen. He may become more calm and not as hyper or aggressive once he is neutered and this is due to the reduction in circulating hormones following removal of the testicles. Castration will have the following benefits: No more icky discharge from the penis or prepuce, no incentive to roam and look for females, if the dog shows some aggression, castration will usually lessen aggressive behavior. A lot of entire males are constantly upset and excited if they smell females in heat ( and the smell can travel for a mile and more), No chance of making babies. The short answer is: maybe. Urine marking can develop into a set habit of behavior, and it can be difficult to get them to stop completely if they weren't neutered at an early age. However, in trying to minimize the behavior, the very first thing you should do IS to neuter your dog, so you're already on the right track. This can be a frustrating problem in intact males! The first thing I would do right away is have Junior neutered - many times, this will decrease the marking behavior dramatically even if it's already been going on for several years. After this is done, you will likely still need to work with him a bit on housetraining. Treat him like a young puppy who has no idea where to potty - take him out frequently, praise and reward for peeing outside, and supervise constantly indoors to prevent accidents. If you see him starting to lift his leg, clap your hands and say "ah-ah!" or "no!" - he will soon learn that this is not acceptable in the house, if you are consistent. Don't relax your supervision until he has had at least two weeks with no accidents at all, then increase his freedom in the house very slowly. This will take time and patience, but it can definitely be done.

It sounds like Kiba is entering the stage where is hormones are telling him to get all the lady dogs pregnant, and to keep away other male dogs. I would recommend neutering Kiba to keep him out of trouble. Fights with other male (and even female) dogs can turn ugly very quick. Neutering at this early age should prevent long-term aggression, but it can take 6-8 weeks for the hormones to completely leave his system. Unless you are planning to breed Kiba, there is no medical benefit to leaving his testicles in a this point. His chill personality should be locked in, and testosterone is no longer needed as he should be done growing at this point.
