My dog eats well. Does he still need multivitamins or B-complex?

It isn't recommended to give a multivitamin to a dog when they are already on a completed and balanced diet. Your dog will be getting all the nutrients they need to be healthy (keep in mind you feed twice a day, so there is a continuous supply of vitamins and minerals), and too many can have toxic effects. I wouldn't give your dog a multivitamin unless specifically prescribed by a vet due to a nutritional deficiency.

I would not generally recommend using supplements unless a specific condition has been diagnosed which would benefit from nutritional treatment. I would recommend feeding a high quality, balanced food which has been formulated for his specific size and age. Adding multivitamins to a good diet can lead to accidental excesses and imbalances and can be harmful

A dog that is fed a well balanced complete diet for the size of his breed, will not need any supplements at all. If you add supplements you will upset the balance of the diet. Unless your dog is lacking certain minerals or vitamins (proven by a blood test) I do not recommend you feed a supplement. Keep feeding a good diet and all should be well.

This is a multivitamin labeled for people so I would not recommmed giving this to a pet because they require much smaller doses of vitamins than people do. Typically GI upset would ensure if given people vitamins. I would instead recommend a pet formulated multivitamin and only if the pet has a known deficiency or condition that we are treating for. As long as your dogs are getting a high quality dog food, you do not need to give them any vitamins. Their food will provide all the vitamins they need. You can give them glucosamine, which is a dietary supplement that helps with joint health. Typically it's given as 20 mg/lb of body weight, and you can find canine glucosamine tablets at the pet store. One of the most important things to do is have yearly vet health checks for them to make sure everything is ok. Be sure to keep up to date with their vaccines, flea treatment, deworming treatments, and heartworm treatments. Also have regular dental cleanings done with the vet. Just like humans, dogs need their teeth cleaned, and severe dental disease can lead to other problems such as liver abscesses and endocarditis from bacteria traveling from the mouth via the bloodstream. If she is being fed a high quality diet, all these vitamins are part of it and do not need to be supplemented. Actually, most dogs that eat plants, grass or dirt do not do it because of a lack of minerals, vitamins or any other essential ingredients. With that in mind, while vitamins are not going to hurt, he may not really need them. In most cases, we never find out why they eat plants. I encourage avoiding this behavior as sometimes they do this because the grass or plant has been sprayed with chemicals that sometimes have a smell/taste to them which is a reason why they may do it. I would discourage this behavior as much as possible and if he is already eating a complete and balanced diet, there is no need to add vitamins or minerals of any sort. I would also avoid Blu from eating this plant as sometimes it can actually have a toxic effect causing gastrointestinal upset including vomiting and diarrhea and can even be more toxic when large amounts are ingested.
