Why is my dog's mouth sore and acting funny after a cat scratch?

It could be Wednesday keeps scratching at it or rubbing her face preventing it from healing. I'm also concerned it could be infected. I'd have her seen by a vet this weekend to have this treated so it can finally heal. I hope this helps!

Ellie is adorable! This is an unusual problem. I recommend discussing this with your veterinarian and have them look into the mouth if they can to look at her teeth. I would give her anti inflammatory medication, sedate her and gently stretch the mouth to get it to open more. Then they can examine the mouth and clean the teeth if needed. She has scar tissue keeping the mouth from opening but with heat, pain medication and steady pressure for 10-20 minutes while under anesthesia this should be able to be stretched open more. My dog had a similar scar problem and that what I did to improve the range of motion. She may not get to normal but it should improve the jaw mobility. If you see one flea, there could be many more. I would recommend that Alice be on year-round flea prevention for this issue. What you describe could be an eosinophilic granuloma. I recommend that Alice get checked out by a vet to confirm this possibility, or to see what else could be causing it. These granulomas can certainly flare up with inflammation or allergies, which would be caused by fleas. Other possible causes of itching include mites, ringworm, or other allergies. I would get him in as soon as you can, but not necessarily as an emergency. It could probably wait until Monday. There good be an infected tooth, inflammation in the gums, a small ulcer or mass, or something else causing this behavior.

Poor Floquinha, pictures can be very difficult to interpret but it looks like she may have pulled to skin away from the gums. I would recommend a vet check to ensure there is no infection or debris in the wound but at this late stage surgical repair may not be possible with treatment aiming to keep the area clean and allow secondary wound healing.

Poor Momo! He could have a sore tooth in the back of his mouth causing him to scratch at it, he could have a skin infection of the side of the mouth called a lip fold pyoderma, it could be caused by allergies, or he could have a foreign body stuck in his mouth. I recommend taking Momo into your vet to have his mouth examined, have the cause of the scratching diagnosed, and you vet can determine the appropriate treatment.

Cats can sometimes get the same kinds of mouth and lip diseases that people get. Perhaps she bumped it against something or scraped it on rough surface as she was being curious. Another reason for swollen lips are possible allergic reactions to insect bites or noxious substances. In addition, dental disease or improper teeth occlusion can can cause lip abrasions. My best advice is this: As long as she is eating, drinking, and playing normally, give the lip 3 days to improve and get smaller. If there is no improvement in that time, or if the lip gets bigger in the meantime, please have her seen by your veterinarian for a thorough oral examination. I hope this helps.
