Amoxicillin has moderate penetration in the mouth cavity, so it can be used to treat mouth sores in pets. However Clindamycin has the best absorption in the mouth and therefore is typically used as the first line of defense, as long as the pet isn't hypersensitive to it.
There is no cause for concern for damage to either the liver or kidney.
The ulcer changing from white to pink color is a sign that its healing. Healing occurs within 7-10 days in most cases. If it doesn't heal properly within that time frame then consult with your vet about either extending the course of treatment or trying a different antibiotic (i.e. clindamyicn). Best wishes with Danny and his recovery.
