My dog was bitten by a mouse. Why does he have painful throat lumps?

I would see if there is an emergency vet you can take Jemmy into immediately. It's very serious he won't eat and is in a lot of pain. Unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him. Many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Call around to find a vet on call to see him now. Best of luck.

If there is really an abscess, this should not be treated at home. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I can see that the wound is moist and there is a scab in the center..An abscess is likely to be raised and closed, and this wound appears rather open. Because the wound is large, it may take several days to heal, but I can see that it is beginning to close. If you are concerned that Hashbrown is uncomfortable, you can always bring her to a vet for pain medication and antibiotics. Hello there! I'm sorry to hear that Marvin is having some health troubles. The lip and the leg issue are probably unrelated, but depending on the age of your mouse, several things may be going on. If he's a young dude, I strongly suggest checking the length of his teeth, as overgrown teeth can poke into the lip and cause swelling and abscesses. The lump could still be an abscess even if he's older, and especially if he lives with other mice that may have bitten him. It is also possible that the lump is a cancerous tumor. While the location is uncommon, older mice can develop cancers anywhere. The best thing for him is to visit a vet to determine the cause. They will likely palpate the mass, and may take a small sample of cells from within the mass using a very small needle. These cells may then be examined under the microscope, which may help determine what is causing the mass (bacteria, cancer, etc). Treatment will depend on the cause - he may need antibiotics, or the vet may recommend removal of the mass. Limping in mice is usually caused by injury. Take a look at his foot pad to check for redness or lesions, especially if he's housed on a grate or wire mesh as these can cause pododermatitis (a skin infection of the foot). This should also be evaluated by the vet to determine the cause and to get him some pain medication, if needed. Good luck, and I sure do hope that Marvin the mouse recovers!

Hello. In cats, pretty much all lumps are going to be bite abscesses from other cats until proven otherwise. Is Suki limping or favoring the paw? It could be that Tank has an abscess. This commonly occur after animal bites and are very painful to the dog. He does need to see a vet tomorrow, as if he does have an abscess, it will need to be drained and flushed, and he will need antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

Poor Mac--that looks sore and painful! Since Mac is not eating or drinking, he needs to see the vet. The lump could be an abscess or some other kind of infectious process. Or, he could have allergies and be very itchy. Mac needs to have a vet exam to figure out if he needs to be on allergy medication and antibiotics. Your vet may also want to do bloodwork to make sure something more serious isn't going on. Hope that helps!
