Can I mix Prozac, Trazodone, Alprazolam for my dog's anxiety?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 9 months and 4 days old | 26 lbs

I wanna know if Prozac ( flouxetene) and alprazolum can be given together . Or Prozac ( flouzetene ) and Trazodone together . I’ve been told from my vets to change my bongos meds from Trazadone to Prozac but for added affects , trazadone it alprazam should also be given . I heard it’s not a good mix for dogs . Please elaborate ? My bongo is in stress and anxiety and is showing moderate aggression with owners and family members . He was a lovely obedient dog a month before . Thanks

Mixing those medications has potential cause serotonin syndrome. I would consult with your prescribing vet before combing them due to this side effect. In some instances it is needed but as a last resort and the doses have to be reduced in order to be used together

I agree moving or Prozac is a good patio compared to trazadone. It can have a variable dose and take up to a month for max effect. You can also add composure or zylkeine . This is a natural medication to help

Trazadone should not be given with Prozac because of the potential for serotonin syndrome. I am attaching information about both drugs below.

I would ask your veterinarian the safest way to transition him from Trazadone to Prozac since the drugs should not be used together. Sometimes we will change from one to the other right away, but sometimes we will stop Trazadone first, then start Prozac later.
Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using PetCoach.
