My dog has milky discharge at 40 days. Is she pregnant?

Do you mean 53 days pregnant? Dogs are pregnant for 63 days /- a few. If you are seeing milk from mammary glands, then she is very close to labor. I would monitor her, give her a comfortable, warm, quiet place to be able to go to. Once she begins labor, they usually can do it all on their own. The problem to watch for is if she is actively pushing for 20-30 min without any progress. If that occurs, get her to the ER Right away. It is normal to have times of rest, and blocks in between puppies but in those natural times there is no active pushing. Good luck.

Hello, based on those images, her nipples are enlarged but there is no clear mammary gland development, therefore its difficult to say if she is pregnant or not. The best way to tell if she is pregnant, is to have her seen by her veterinarian for an x-ray or ultrasound. In regards to the discharge, it could be coming from her rectum or anal glands, or it could be coming from her reproductive tract or urinary tract. It is difficult to say if she discharge from any of these tract without a physical examination. This is likely the dissolution of the mucus plug. She will give birth within the next week and should start lactating soon. If the discharge looks like pus or has a bad smell. you need to take her to your veterinarian right away for an exam. Your vet can also take an x-ray and tell you how many puppies to expect so you know when she is done giving birth.

It could be normal discharge. I would not be concerned about it if she is still acting normal and eating and drinking ok. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Normal pregnancy length in dogs is 60-63 days. If she mated right before adoption then she could be pregnant. Puppy heart beats can be detected on ultrasound at 28 days gestation and we can see their skeletons on X-rays around 50 days. She could be pregnant or she could be suffering from a false pregnancy which occurs after they have a heat cycle from a hormonal imbalance. This imbalance causes the body to think it is pregnant when it actually isn't. The dog can develop mammary glands, produce milk, nest, carry stuffed animals around like babies, act anxious. It resolves with in 2-3 months. I would make an appointment with your Vet to see if you can confirm or deny pregnancy. I wish you the best!

on day 51 she should be about 2 weeks from giving birth. she should start making breasts now, but there will not be milk until shortly before giving birth. she should, by now, also have gained in girth significantly. It would be a good idea to take Princess to a veterinarian for an xray to determine whether she is pregnant, and if so, to determine the number and size of the puppies and whether to expect complications. Leaking urine can have several causes, one being puppies pressing on the bladder, another being a urinary tract infection. Best take her to a vet for a check up.
