My dog has milkdrops after spay. Is it normal? What should I do?

I am sorry for the delay in answering your question. It sounds like you’ve gotten her to the vet by now, and I hope you got some answers. My thought when reading your question is that some dogs will have some remnant ovarian tissue (small amounts ovarian tissue that either is left behind at surgery or is growing elsewhere in the abdomen). Ovarian tissue can cause false pregnancy which could cause these symptoms. A hormone profile test (run on blood) should be able to give your vet information to determine if there is ovarian tissue still present. I suggest you take her back to the vet for an exam. She may have a piece of ovary that was left behind during surgery that is causing stimulation of the mammary and vulvar tissues. From the picture, that looks like a suture reaction, which is common a month or two out from surgery as the internal suture material is dissolving. If there is no discharge and it's not warm to the touch, and she's otherwise normal, it shouldn't need medical attention. However if it starts to bleed or have discharge, take her in for a check up

This can sometimes happen either when in heat or if she is suffering from a phantom pregnancy, check for bleeding from he private parts in the next few days, if she starts bleeding she can't have the surgery done, you will have to wait at least a couple of months.

Yes, Sadie's mammary glands will eventually return back to a normal size, although it may take several months. If you notice any swelling, discharge, or masses in the area of her mammary glands, please have her seen by a veterinarian, as she may have an infection. You can put an e-collar (cone) on her for the next week or two to help prevent her from licking at the area.

I would be extremely concerned about this discharge in only one teat and she was just recently spayed at her age. I suggest you take her back to the vet for an exam. This may be recurrence of a tumor or there is some hormonal imbalance. This discharge is never normal in a spayed dog.

Hi ! If Holly is well in herself, eating bright passing normal feaces and urine, I would not worry. A little bit of vaginal discharge is expected folllowing the surgery and should gradually decrease and disappear. It can take sometimes a couple of weeks for it to settle completely.
