Can dogs with milk allergies have food with lactobacillus acidophilus?

As far as my knowledge goes this is not officially (scientifically) recommended as cannot help with both allergies and general gastrointestinal inflammation related to diet. Personally I do not recommend it in these cases. It is true though that goat milk can be digested more easily compared to dairy milk.

Forti-Flora (made by Purina) is approved for use in pets with food allergies. Although it is beef-flavored, the flavoring is made from a hydrolyzed protein that cannot trigger any allergic response - so this is my usual "go-to" probiotic choice for a pet with allergies like this.

The only way to find out whether this Lil Plates food will make him sick is to try it out. It would be best to stick with a food that he has no adverse reactions to. No, do not give your dog milk. Dairy is never recommended to give to dogs because it causes GI upset. There are kibble diets that are formulated with proteins that aren't made from chicken, such as rabbit, lamb, duck, and beef. Eukcanuba has a lamb and rice kibble, that may be a good option for your dog. I hope this helps!

As dogs age and get weaned off of their mother's milk, they lose an enzyme that breaks down the protein in milk. Without this enzyme they can get diarrhea and other gastrointestinal upsets when they drink milk. Generally, we advise owners not to feed their dogs milk once they are over three months old. An allergy to the milk is also possible, but not very common and would similarly cause gastrointestinal problems. I hope that helps and all is well with Snowie.

Hello. An adult dog should not need an additional source of protein if they are eating a balanced dog food well. But I see no harm in sprinkling a small amount on the food to enhance the flavor.or as a treat. You could use a teaspoon daily unless your pet is underweight or recovering from illness or injury. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Allergens are small proteins that cause the immune system in animals/mammals to 'over-react'. What constitutes an allergen will vary from animal to animal and depends on what their specific immune system 'doesn't like'. Therefore, there is no way to say any food has 'No allergens'. For example, peanuts are an allergen to a person with a peanut allergy, but not to a person without peanut allergies. In general, most animals don't have allergies to food, and unless you are seeing signs of food allergies (diarrhea, vomiting, itchy skin/feet/bum/ears)) then any food protein or carbohydrate is ok. I generally recommend a good quality large breed food with low fat and high fiber. If you want the best for Luns, talk with your vet about Hill's T/D which helps prevent dental disease and also has some efficacy at helping prevent joint disease. It is also an AAFCO supported food so you know it is well balanced and scientific studies have been done to ensure it is a good quality food. Other good food companies are Royal Canine, Science Diet, Eukanuba, etc. Find a food that Luns likes to eat, and has a good quality hair coat and normal poops. Best of luck with Luns!
