Can I change my dog's daily Metacam dosing time for pain relief?

A one time early dose is unlikely to be problematic, but I would recommend that you don’t redose for at least another 24 hours. If she seems comfortable than you can wait for 36 hours and use the gabapentin. Monitor for any signs of nausea, vomiting, or dark tarry stools. It is OK that you gave it 2 hours early but I personally don't recommend multiple days of Metacam administration in cats. I suggest you stop giving it at this point unless she seems painful. After a week she should not be.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Pet Coach. All of those medications would be ideal to be given as soon as you can rather then waiting until tonight to "try again". If she was due for all three this morning, I would recommend to try again mid-day. Tramadol can be given every 6-8hours to make her comfortable so try to get that into her as soon as you can. Prednisone and clavamox should be given with food or directly after a meal. I would recommend to feed her some lunch and then try to give those meds again after the meal. Maybe with a treat, cheese, pill pocket. If you are able to get either one of those meds into her this afternoon, then skip the evening dose and resume in early morning. The sooner the better.

If Zia was given a Metacam injection then that lasts for 24 hrs of pain control. But you can safely give this medication after noon the following day in most situations. It’s best to wait until tomorrow and call your vet to see what time the Metacam was given of you want specifics, but she should be fine either way. : ) Also you can typically give 1/2 her regular portion of food the night of the surgery and then regular portions starting the following day. If she didn’t have any extractions then you shouldn’t have to soften the food or anything like that. I hope that Zia does well following her dental cleaning here moving forward! Since this was not quite double the appropriate dose your dog should be ok. Do not give another dose for at least 48 hours. Make sure Evie has access to plenty of fresh water. Yes you can use it. If it's a liquid ask your veterinarian the specific amount to give for his weight. If it's in individual doses the eight pound dose should be fine. Make sure you tell your veterinarian that you have metacam that you want to use so they don't dose Jackson and then you dose him also and therefore give too much. You should not give Scotty the aspirin or any additional medications. Metacam is an NSAID and so is aspirin. The two can have negative interactions so you can’t mix them. If Scotty tolerates it, try a warm compress (not hot) to the sore area. Also encouraging him to walk around can actually help it to feel better. I hope he feels better quickly!
