Is melatonin safe for my puppy with a broken leg on Previcox?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 10 months old | 50 lbs

Hi my puppy broke bones in his leg he is a chocolate lab and is very active. He has a soft cast and was put on previcox. Can I give him a calming agent with melatonin in it to keep him calm while his leg heals so he doesn't cause further damage?

I would talk to your veterinarian about medications that will be safe for Jax while hes healing. While melatonin is not likely to cause harm, I am not convinced that it would work very well either. Your vet should have a couple of options available that should be safe with the Previcox.
