Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 2 years old | 85 lbs

Is it safe to give my dog with mastitis penicillin at home? If so where would I give it to her at and what would the dosage be for an 65 lb dog?

I would not recommend treating your dog without an examination by the veterinarian, to ensure that mastitis is the issue and to ensure an appropriate antibiotic is chosen. We do not normally use penicillin to treat this infection, a first line antibiotic commonly used is Clavamox.
