My dog's Palladia isn't working for mast cell tumors. What's next?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 years and 1 month old | 56 lbs

My Tsunami is on Palladia for MCT high grade from July. Her MCT on prescapular lymph node’d grown suddenly on Aug, then she shows severe histamine reaction every other day (shaking, puke and poo same time, her all skin turn super red) I asked my Vet but there is nothing more to do. Is this common case that Palladia is not effective for certain dogs’ MCT? Is this still in-process to kick-in Palladia? Or are we in the phase that we should be ready for the time to “decide” based on her QOL?

A response would be expected within 4-6weeks of starting paladia. Given the severity of symptoms you describe, I would recommend review by an oncologist to assess what else, if anything can be added or adjusted to improve her comfort and quality of life. Frequent histamine episodes are definitely cause for concern and consideration of euthanasia is a very valid option at this stage.
