My bulldog puppy has a small lump under her skin near her shoulder. What is it?

There are numerous causes of lumps on a puppies skin. If Bella has been microchipped (this is usually done between the shoulder blades), it could be the chip you are feeling. Other causes are cysts, scar tissue, inflammation after a vaccine, and tumors. I would recommend taking Bella in to your local vet to have this lump evaluated. If it is her microchip, it is not a problem. If it is something else, your veterinarian can do a fine needle aspirate to try to get a sample of cells from this lump to determine what it is. This is not a painful procedure and similar to her getting a vaccine.

Such a small, solid and not painful skin lumps are often seen in puppies and young dogs. Stella may have a local skin infection, post-sting or bite reaction or allergy but it is impossible to know what it is without seeing and examining your dog. I would recommed you to take Stella to your vet for clinical examination and to make sure that the lump is not going to cause any problems to her.

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. Hi there and thank you for posting this question. Pimple type growths can be a sign of a skin infection, mites, or even a tick bite reaction. If there is just one area and it improves daily then it is unlikely to be problematic. However, if you are feeling multiple areas, if you see fleas or ticks, or if it is not resolving then I would become more concerned. This appears to be a tumor or a large cyst. There is no way to discern whether it is malignant or benign via a photo. Your veterinarian can take a small tissue sample from the tumor and send it in to evaluate it. He can also take the whole tumor and send the whole thing in. Best schedule an appointment for an exam soon.
