My dog has a lump between paw toes. Why is he licking it so much?

It could be a cyst. It could also be a result or a foreign body such as a splinter or grass awn. Unless he he very painful or lethargic. It probably isn't an emergency. Of course, the sooner treatment is started, the sooner he will heal up. Keep the site clean and dry. Use an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking until he sees the vet.

This is either a tumor, or infection. Infections are common in this area, because things like thorns and grass awns can get stuck in-between the toes. Tumors are a possibility in this area as well. We worry about certain types of tumors on the toes, because they tend to spread easier than others. Since Toby is also acting lethargic, I am more worried about cancer, or a systemic infection. Considering this, it's best to have Toby seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible in the next day or two. The vet will be able to quickly narrow-down the cause of this and start providing treatment to make him feel better. They will also be able to give you various diagnostic and treatment options. Swelling could be secondary to the licking or the cause for the licking. I would recommend you have your vet check it out. Allergies are probably the most common cause of licking the feet, but it can also be caused by fleas, bacterial or yeast infection pain in the foot or joint, a sticker or something under the skin, etc. After an exam, the vet may do a cytology or x-rays to see what is going on. Until Justice sees the vet, you may want to prevent licking by using an e-collar, since licking it may cause damage and infection in the skin.

I recommend booking an appointment with a veterinarian to have Paisley's toe evaluated, as you are correct that it is likely causing her discomfort, but she may not be showing it. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for dogs, so I do not recommend giving any to your pup without consulting with your vet. The bump you are seeing could be a mass, or it could be a skin lesion caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection, dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, or could be a combination of the above. I recommend making an appointment to have Paisley seen by your veterinarian to help determine the cause of the bump you’ve noticed and to make sure it is treated appropriately. The vet will likely want to look at a sample from the area under the microscope to determine what is causing the bump and to provide treatment. In the meantime, I recommend putting an e-collar/cone on her to help reduce the risk of infection from her licking at the area.

It's hard to see from the pictures, but if Lily is biting to the point of causing bleeding this is not normal. The bumps could be anything ranging from allergies, to fungal/yeast infections between the toes, to growths/tumors. It would be best to have the area looked at by your vet so the exact cause can be found. In the meantime, using an Elizabethan (cone) collar to prevent Lily from licking and chewing is best to stop further irritation or introduction of bacteria into the wound.

It could have an allergic component or be an interdigital cyst. A closer physical exam and possibly x-rays of the paw would be recommended. Ruling out a foreign body (grass seed, awn, foxtail, etc) or tumor would also be recommended. Discuss allergy testing, hydrolyzed diets, food elimination trials and even antihistamine use with the vet. It looks like Cleo will need antibiotics once again anyway. It sounds like Oreo has developed an interdigital furuncle/cyst. Sometimes they can be treated medically with steroids and antibiotics but sometimes require surgery. I would head to your vet at your earliest convenience.
