My dog has a lump on its belly. Is it a skin tag, wart, or serious?

Hello there I have found what appears to be a large skin tag on the belly of my dog but I am worried it is something more serious, any advice would be appreciated.

That looks more like a wart or other type of skin lesion. Pets can get many types of lumps and bumps. Most of these tumors will be benign but some will be malignant and you can't tell by looks. Here is a helpful link discussing the various types of skin masses in general:

As long as the mass is not changing, I recommend to have it checked out after the concern for COVID-19 is over to be safe. The doctor may recommend to aspirate the mass to examine the cells under a microscope. That is one of the best ways to know what it is and if further action is needed. I hope this helps.

This looks like a mass. It looks quite benign such as a wart or skin tag, however it is impossible to know for sure without testing the lump. You could have the lump tested/removed or simply monitor it for changes. I wouldn't be overly concerned about it.

This lump/growth should be ideally examined by your veterinarian to have a definitive diagnosis. Your vet will examine it and possibly perform with an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy. Differentials would include skin cyst, infections or benign or malignant type of tumors. My dog has a soft black lump on her belly. Is it cancer or a skin tag?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It always COULD be cancer - the only way to diagnose for sure is to remove it and send it to the lab. But I doubt it based on its current appearance. FAR more likely is that it’s a completely harmless “skin tag”. I’m not surprised at the color; even though her fur is fawn, you can see that Gracie’s actual skin is blackish in that area. Keep an eye on it. If it becomes suddenly big, hard, or seems to bother Gracie, get it checked out. Best of luck to you and Gracie!

That mass could be several things. Red raised hairless masses can be benign growths such as warts, histiocytomas, reactions or infected hair follicles. They can unfortunately also be malignant grows such as Mast Cell Tumor or Plasmacytoma. I would recommend to have it checked out by the vet who may be better able to tell how concerned you should be by palpating the mass and the surrounding lymphnodes. My dog has a new skin flap on her upper tummy. What could it be?

Without seeing her in person, it is difficult to say for sure what it is but it looks like a skin tag or a mass growing off of a nipple. Since it is new, it is always best to have your vet take a look at it once to ensure it doesn't need to be surgically removed. After that, if they think it is okay, I would just monitor it closely. The vet will likely want to do an aspirate of the masses to help determine what they are. They may be something benign like a fatty tumor but they could also be malignant.
