Dog lost vision and has green eyes after tick bite. What's wrong?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 9 days old | 44 lbs

Hello! I was wondering if I could be given a second opinion about my dog, Oscar. He was bitten by a tick 3 weeks ago, we took him to the vet the same day he was bitten and the vet gave him clindamycin. He got better, but 3 days after the bite his eyes turned green and he lost his sight. Now he's feeling well, but even after the luthein pills the vet prescribed, his vision hasn't improved. Could you please tell me what this might be and how could I fix it? Thank you!

Tick born disease can cause uveitis (inflammation of the inside of the eye), but does not usually cause acute blindness. By any chance is this puppy on ivermectin? Or could he have eaten horse poop from a horse that was recently dewormed? If so, then ivermectin may be causing the problem. Best of luck and I hope his vision improves!
