My Boxer has growths on her lip after a recent dental. What are they?

I'm sorry to hear Molly has a growth. I would recommend she be seen by her regular veterinarian. Boxers are predisposed to a type of skin cancer known as a mast cell tumor. Your regular veterinarian should be able to determine with a needle aspirate if this bump is a mast cell tumor or not, and the necessary next steps to take. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Unfortunately, Boxer's are predisposed to developing this type of mass in the mouth. These can be removed surgically but commonly come back. I typically recommend removing these if they are increasing in size or if they are causing a problem and the dog is biting down on the epulis when chewing food causing the mass to bleed. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. This can be caused by an infection, which may have resulted from a small cut. While Kona is pretty young, it is possible that the bump is a small tumor, and it can be removed to determine if it is benign (not harmful) or malignant (likely to spread). It is concerning that the bump has gotten bigger over time, so I recommend having her seen by a vet. You can get her an E-collar or "cone" to prevent her from scratching or rubbing the area. I would recommend having this spot examined by your veterinarian. Boxers are prone to developing tumors, especially mast cell tumors and it is possible that this spot on his nose is something like a mast cell tumor. Other more benign tumors are possible, or it may be an area of infection or a granuloma. Your veterinarian may want to take a sample using a needle (fine needle aspirate) to examine under the microscope and help determine what this mass might be.

This is indeed a mass. Make a note of how big it is now and watch it for a week or two and then compare to the size it is now. If it grew, or started to ooze or bleed, it needs to be examined by your vet and possibly removed. If it is just a wart, it can remain, unless it causes trouble.
