My dog is limping with white spots on her paw pad, and it's worsening.

This could just be an allergic condition, but looking at the spotty nature of the pads, I would also be concerned that this might be an auto-immune condition called pemphigus, where the lesions are often first noticed on the footpads. Since this has been ongoing for several months, & now she is showing signs of pain, it is time to have your veterinarian evaluate the pads for what is going on. Hope all is well. Take care.

This does not look like a cut, but rather like a corn. Corns are keratin calluses on the front center paw pads, such as under the second toe bone, which lacks subcutaneous tissue or padding. This will not be cured by putting Vetericyn on the lesion, but will likely need surgery. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. Hello there! I'm so glad your pups are home safe. It sounds like you are doing right by them until their vet visit with the bandaging and Neosporin (be sure that no one eats the bandages - you certainly don't want any secondary GI problems!). The limping is probably from the paw damage, but your vet will give them a thorough exam to make sure that they don't have any other injuries. I recommend avoiding the Epsom salt soak for any open wounds as it may be irritating. Epsom salts are good for painful joints and the like, but we don't want to put salt into any cuts. If you think anything might be stuck in their paw pads, a soak in lukewarm water with a mild soap solution may be helpful. Just be sure to rinse and dry their paws very well afterwards to avoid any further moisture build-up in between the toes, which may harbor bacteria. I hope they both feel better soon!

That red bump in between the toes is suspicious for a grassawn/foxtail. I suggest you have her examined by your vet (not an emergency). In the meantime, you can try soaking the foot in warm Epsom salt water (10 minutes 3 times per day) to hopefully draw out any foxtail that may be under the skin.

Inspect her paw for thorns or other foreign bodies, You can also bathe/soak the paw in some warm epsom salt bath, If the swelling does not go down within 48 hrs you need to take her to a vet for an exam. There may be infection and she might need prescription antibiotics.

Hello, and thanks for your question. It's difficult to tell in the picture where the injury is. I'm possibly seeing a small area with minor irritation on the edge of the metacarpal pad (the larger pad behind the toe pads), almost like a rug-burn type injury... If that's the case, it will be a bit sore until the tissue starts to heal, but there isn't much to do other than monitor for infection and protect it from further injury. You can apply a topical ointment such as neosporin, and sometimes they're more comfortable if you apply a sock or bootie when Blitz goes outside. Avoid long walks and running off leash for a week or so, especially on abrasive surfaces such as concrete or gravel. Monitor for redness, swelling, or discharge that might indicate infection. If you see any of these, or if Blitz seems uncomfortable enough to need pain medication, then it's best to bring her in to the vet. Of course, if there's further injury besides the suspected "rugburn" or scrape I described above, don't hesitate to question again with a description of the injury you're seeing, and maybe a close-up with an arrow to the injury in question...
