My dog is limping, tired, and peeing in the house. What's happening?

My dog was limping very happy and now he limps and lays around but is still happy but he peed on the floor. What do you think this can be

Hi there. Limping could be caused by a number of different things, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine your dog and run some tests. He may have an orthopedic problem like hip dysplasia or a torn cruciate ligament in his knee, a soft tissue injury like a sprain or pulled muscle, or some type of neurologic problem.

I would recommend taking him to the vet to have this checked. He/she can do a complete orthopedic exam and may also take x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem.

Yes, blood in the urine could be caused by an injury but it can also be caused by a UTI, leptospirosis, something toxic, a bleeding disorder, or bladder stones. Lovey Dovey really needs to see a vet today for this, especially since it's been going on for two to three weeks. When there is blood in the urine, it should never be treated at home, the dog should see the vet as soon as possible. The vet can do a physical exam, routine blood tests, and urinalysis to diagnose what is causing the blood in her urine. Once the cause is found, the vet can prescribe treatment for her.

It sounds like your dog has a few things going on. Given that the limping is in her hind limb, she could have torn her cranial cruciate ligament, has meniscal damage in her knee, has a luxating patella, or may have strained or torn a muscles. The blood tint in her urine is an indication of a UTI or bladder stones. I would have her seen by a vet first thing in the morning. The vet can do a physical exam, lameness exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and possibly x-rays to diagnose what is causing the limping and blood in her urine. Once the causes are diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options with you.

Poor Benedict! He could be unsteady after naps because his legs are painful. He may have injured himself leading to the limping. As for not peeing for 12 hours, I wouldn't be too worried about that just yet. Rest him tonight, and then I would take him into the vet in the morning. Best of luck.

Excessive thirst can be a sign of many different diseases including liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, infections, Cushing's Addison's, etc. Have your vet take a look at him to determine the cause. Your vet can run lab-work to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. The limping may be unrelated and your vet can examine his leg to try to figure out the cause. Why is my senior dog peeing inside, limping, and won't come in?

Poor Buccs! It sounds like he has a couple of things going on. Urinating within the house can be a sign of a medical problem, such as bladder stones or a UTI. He is also an older dog, and his back leg could be hurting him due to arthritis, which is common in old dogs. As for not wanting to come back in, he could be suffering some confusion at his age, or there could have been something that frightened him, and he doesn't want to come back in due to that. All of this requires a trip to the vet. The vet can do routine blood tests, a urinalysis, and possibly x-rays to see if he does have a UTI or bladder stones, and can treat accordingly. If he does have arthritis, the vet can prescribe him some pain medication, and I would recommend giving him glucosamine or chondroitin sulfate supplements. They provide the necessary nutrients for cartilage repair and function. Use of them helps relieve some of the symptoms of arthritis. The vet can also discuss strategies to help bring him back inside without a leash. I would take him into a vet today for a visit.

My dog is limping and lethargic. Is it time for a vet visit?

If he was behaving normally otherwise, then watching him at home would have been recommended, but since he is lethargic as well, he really should be seen. It could be anything from a strain or pull to orthopedics injury to infection. A physical exam, xrays and a screening for tick borne diseases would be recommended. Treatment will depend on the diagnosis. In the meantime, restrict activity to just leash walks for elimination and avoid excessive running, jumping or rough play until he sees the doctor.

My dog is limping and in pain. How to get him to the vet safely?

It sounds like he needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have an infection (Lyme disease, etc.), immune mediated polyarthritis, panosteitis , etc. Your vet can run lab-work and take an x-ray to help diagnose. You could try to find a mobile vet to come to your house or call your vet and see if he/she could prescribe a sedative to make the visit easier. You definitely want to make the experience positive to try and change his aggressive behavior. He will need medical care throughout his life and it makes it very difficult for both the dog and vet. Hope he feels better soon and the visit goes smoothly!

Why is my dog limping and whining in pain? What's wrong?

He could have a sprain, ligament issue, infection (Lyme), inflammation, etc. If the limp continues than have him examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do an orthopedic exam and then take x-rays, if needed, to help diagnose. He may need to continue the Carprofen to help with any pain and inflammation.
