Why is my dog limping and has a lump on his back leg or thigh?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chico. If he is limping, this means that his leg is painful to him. Being a young dog, muscular injury from rough play is likely. He also could have a congenital problem where his kneecaps are loose and slip in and out of place. This can cause lameness as well. If he is eating and drinking and acting normal otherwise, you can give him strict rest for 24 hours. This means no running, jumping, stairs or playing. Carry him as much as possible. If the lameness does not resolve, then he will need to see his veterinarian. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!

Poor Sandy. She could have injured herself, may have a cyst, an abscess, or a growth causing the lump and limping. Limping means she is in pain, so please take her into the vet to get examined today.

Please make an appointment to have Tammh seen by a vet as soon as possible. She is likely in pain, and may have a muscular or nerve injury, a fractured bone, a mass, or a foreign body in the leg. Your vet can assess the leg during the physical exam and may recommend x-rays to help determine the cause of Tammh’s limp. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for dogs, so I do not recommend giving any to Tammh without consulting with your vet.

This can be a mass, bone cyst, fracture, or infection of the joint and is likely painful. I recommend having your dog seen by a vet as soon as possible. With Axel I would be worried about swelling due to an abscess, fracture, or tumor if the muscle or bone. Hip dislocation can also cause a bump appearance but usually the bump is actually up above there the hip is located as it dislocates cranially most often. If he is not bearing weight then he is in significant pain and in my book this warrants a vet visit ASAP, including an emergency vet if he seems painful/unable to rest or relax at home. An X-ray of the leg will be needed to further evaluate what is going on.

Poor Chapo. It's obviously painful to him if he is limping. It could be a growth or fluid in his joint from an injury. He needs to see a vet for this problem, and I would take him into one first thing in the morning.

It sounds like Chacha needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. That lump is worrisome for inflammation, infection or even cancer. The not getting up to pee is concerning that she is in pain. Have her examined today, there is nothing you can do at home to help her and she needs medical attention. I hope this helps.
