My dog is limping and won't put weight on her paw. Is it broken?

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Luna's care today! Poor girl! Lameness can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

IT is quite likely if it is causing her to fall over it may be broken or dislocated. Please arrange an emergency appointment for her and prevent her from walking/falling until you can have her fully assessed to prevent further injury. Keep her fasting from food as a mild sedation may be required for xrays

Clearly Tink is in pain if she holds her leg up in the air and she cries when you touch her paw. She is a little dog and if she feel from a high bed, I'm concerned she could have broken her leg. The only way to rule out a broken leg is with an x-ray from the vet. In addition, she needs pain medication which you cannot give her OTC. Many human pain medications are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. The best thing to do for her is take her into a vet immediately to get this examined and treated. Please do that now. Poor Layla! If she is still limping I would make an appointment to have her seen by your vet. She may have injured her nail(s) as you described, or she may even have some soft tissue swelling/ irritation or a fracture. If there is a stick/ splinter/ other foreign object in her paw the vet can help remove it and treat it to help prevent infection. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for dogs, so I do not recommend giving any to Layla without consulting with your vet. I recommend keeping her in a crate or in a room where she can't run/ jump on anything and only taking her out for very short bathroom breaks until she is no longer limping. Make sure she's on a leash so she can't run and make things worse.

Poor Nymeria! She is adorable! Limping and crying when touched can definitely be an indication of a fracture (broken bone). I recommend having Nymeria seen by a vet right away, as this can be extremely painful. They can localize the trauma with an x-ray and stabilize the leg with a bandage, cast, or surgery if necessary. There are 24 hour emergency clinics in most towns/cities. I hope all is well!

I really feel that Lexi needs to have a full veterinary exam to determine what has happened. From the pictures, one possibility is that she is adjusting how she sits to extend the injured leg out - if she is not putting any weight on that leg then she may have broken it, or injured a ligament. There are also a couple of illnesses that can occur in a young growing dog, thses can be diagnosed with an exam and xrays. If she is limping she should have pain relief - Do not use any human medicines as these may be toxic to her.

Poor Luna! It sounds like she needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause of her lameness. She could have a strain/sprain, dislocation, or a fracture and your vet can take an x-ray to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. She might need an anti-inflammatory, splint, or possibly surgery to treat the problem. Hope she feels better soon!
