My Golden Retriever is limping after an injury. Does he need a vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 65 lbs

My Golden Retriever was playing last night and when he jumped he landed awkwardly on his leg. He has been limping ever since. He still tries to play but his limp is not improving. He just walked up the stairs and whimpered in pain. Does he need to be seen by a vet?

If he is still lame and painful then cage rest is recommended. He does need to see his vet but no jumping or running until you get there. If it is a back leg I would be suspicious of an ACL year or other soft tissue damage at his age
