My dog licks neuter incision. Are panting and restlessness signs?

Poor pup! That area is very inflamed and may be infected. Keep the dogs separated and make sure your dog wears his elizabethan collar at all times. Get him seen by his veterinarian within the next 24 hours as he may need antibiotics. Make sure to keep him from any activity as well such as running or jumping. Yes panting and licking can be signs of pain and nausea. I'd get him to an emergency vet tonight if possible, or to your regular vet tomorrow if tonight isn't an option. This could certainly be nothing more than needing a bit more time and medications, but with his recent history, I would take the more cautious route.

Hello, thank you for your question about Pablo. Based on the photo that you have attached I am worried that Pablo may have caused a skin infection around his surgical incision. The area appears very red and inflamed and I can also appreciate some discharge. I would recommend having Pablo seen by a veterinarian so that they can further evaluate the area and discuss treatment options. If left untreated skin infections can sometimes compromise the healing of his incision. Hope this helps, good luck!

I couldn't tell you if the sutured wound area looks normal or not, it's too bad you didn't attache a picture to this post, this way i could tell you right away if it requires a vet visit or not. i encourage you to post a new question with a picture so i can let you know what needs to be done.

Is this the leg where the catheter was? Sometimes the catheter can bother them and make them lick excessively at this area. If that is the case I would put the ecollar back on him and have the veterinarian take a look at him. If it is not from the catheter I would have your veterinarian look at his fur to make sure he is ok. Licking can be from pain, irritation, boredom, allergies, etc. There are many different causes. The concern is if he continues to lick it can lead to other issues. If he continues to lick he can create a hotspot (localized infection) and a granuloma where he is licking. Hello. This incision is still healing and you are seeing areas where the skin edges have not completely healed together. Even though it has been 2 weeks- this photo indicates that Tucker should still be wearing an E-collar or some other device that will prevent him from licking the area. It will heal but it will take longer and you are at risk of it getting infected or opening up more if he is continued to be allowed to lick the area.
