Why is my dog licking a new spot on his nose? Is it serious?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 27 days old | 20 lbs

This appeared on my dogs nose within the last two days. ( I don’t think it was there yesterday but I’m not certain) he keeps licking it and he doesn’t like it touched. We do have cats that he plays with so possible infected cat scratch or something more serious?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. This could also be just a severe infection. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. I recommend you have Ace evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!
