My dog's licking leg, yellow discharge. Infection before trip?

If you see a yellow creamy discharge, this can be pus. A clear yellow or amber colored discharge is likely serum, which oozes out as a wound heals. Itching and biting the skin can be caused by many things, including fleas, mange, lice, infections (bacterial or yeast), ringworm, allergies, among others. To fix the skin, we will first have to identify the cause for the wounds. I recommend that Sirius Black see a vet as soon as possible to identify the cause so he can receive appropriate treatment. Until you take him to the vet, clean the areas with a first-aid chlorhexidine wound soap and warm water. Apply a thin layer of neosporin twice a day. Since Sirius will want to lick it off and keep biting, he should wear an e-collar to prevent further damage to the skin.

It looks like Roscoe likely has a skin infection in his inguinal area as well as on his foot. The licking may be caused initially from allergies, but it sure looks like it had advanced into an infection by what I see in the picture. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. In the meantime bathing in an antimicrobial shampoo such as chlorhexidine or salicylic acid is appropriate. These can be found in the human shampoo aisle in the dandruff area. This is a lip fold infection. Since he's had the cone on there may be more moisture in the lip fold and that may have started the infection. I recommend washing this area twice daily with a warm wash cloth and after eating to keep the area clean. Usually this will heal on its own when kept clean. If it's not healing bring Oso in for an exam. They will look at this and probably prescribe an ointment for treatment. From the pictures, the skin appears red and inflamed. It does look like it is infected. While this may not be a true emergency, I would recommend getting in to see your veterinarian very soon. Pookie will need the area shaved and cleaned up. Your vet may prescribe an antibiotic for this as well depending. Until you can get to your vet, you can keep the area clean and dry and use a mild soap and water to clean the wound. If Pookie is licking it, you can put on ECollar on her to prevent licking.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal infection). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can be possibly started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). Poor guy. You can clean this area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water for now. This will help reduce some of the bacteria and help with some of the irritation/redness. I would not recommend any topical ointments on this area however. However, organic honey can be placed in small amounts on wounds like this However, if there is pus as you say, the infection is dep under the skin and requires oral antibiotics to treat effectively. That is likely to be caused by a vaginal and perianal infection (probably secondary to a dermatitis in the perianal region). A check up is required to confirm this clinical suspicion and treat appropriately.
