My chihuahua puppy is licking fur off his back legs. What's wrong?

If Rico is licking that area then something is bothering him. It may be itchy. This could be a fungal or bacterial skin infection or even mites or a food allergy, and should be examined by a vet and treated. By licking the spots he will further irritate the skin and cause the problem to spread. I suggest you make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam. Your vet will possibly want to do a skin scrape and will prescribe appropriate treatment (antibacterial or antifungal shampoo, ointment or tablets, or steroids or diet change). If he suspects a mite infection, then an acaricide will be applied (injection or tablet)

I would be concerned about fleas given the location of his scratching. If he is not on flea prevention I would recommend starting him on it and seeing if that helps. Benadryl works for very mild itching but if he's very itchy he may need to see your vet for stronger medication. Good luck!

Constant looking on the vulva can indicate an infection in the bladder. There’s not anything you can do for that at home so Bailey needs to see the veterinarian to have her urine tested for an infection or crystals. Try to get her examined today. Constant licking on the hind legs can have many causes but fleas are very common in the area. I recommend to discuss using an oral flea preventative such as Simparica with your veterinarian. If you give her this product and the licking stops, then you know it was due to fleas. In general you can wash her in an oatmeal type dog shampoo as this can help with itching as can an omega-3 fatty acid supplement for pets. Pets can lick a specific area due to a few reasons. Sometimes an area on a lower leg can be related to anxiety, skin mites, pain in the leg, nerve tingling, or a an abrasion which she is now licking. For cases like this, I recommend to have Diamond visit her veterinarian to looks for any evidence of pain or mites. If the doctor is more suspicious of an anxiety or nerve tingling, there are medications that may help. You do need to try to stop her from licking the leg. An Elizabethan collar worn any time she is not being directly supervised can help. It may not change the situation but an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs can decrease inflammation and improve skin health. His veterinarian will examine him and may shave the surrounding hair to better evaluate the area. Based on these results, treatment can be started to help him feel better. He may need oral antibiotics for a wound or surgery to remove a mass. In the meantime, place an E-collar on him to prevent any further trauma. This will be more effective than wrapping it. Hello. Poor Chiquis has allergies, probably an inhalant one to pollen, grasses or dust mites. If you can get her to your veterinarian, she will have very good medications to control the symptoms. These include Apoquel & Cytopoint . You can try a hypoallergenic shampoo to help quiet her symptoms, but this will be temporary, lasting a day or so. But you can bathe her 2-3 times a week to minimize the symptoms. I would try Douxo Calm, or Hylyt antiitch shampoos, both available on Chewy.com. Also, start her on a fish oil supplement. I really recommend Nordic Naturals, also available on chewy.com, to help with the itching. Her symptoms can be controlled, but not cured unless you invest in allergy testing & a desensitization protocol, so check in with your veterinarian at your earliest convenience. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent further licking. Consider an exam with your veterinarian to diagnose and treat the underlying cause. Possibilities include parasites (fleas, mites), infection (bacterial or fungal) and allergies (environmental, foodborne, etc).
