Why does my dog keep licking her arm? Is it an allergy or infection?

The quick color does not mean anything, her licking her paws could mean she is suffering from an allergy or from an infection, in such a case i would recommend taking her to your vet in order to get it checked.

The change of color could be as a result of constant licking. This could be due to an allergy, fleas, an infection or mites. If it's been a while already it is recommended to have it checked by a vet in order to rule out parasites first, then a treatment for allergy or infection can be started.

Dolly has a lick granuloma. The staining you are seeing around it is from her saliva. Often times dogs lick a particular area due to underlying pain (ie: arthritis in the joint). Sometimes it can be that something irritated the skin which started the licking and the subsequent reaction. No way to tell just by looking at it. Usually steroids and antibiotics are needed to clear this up. Also, she will need to wear a cone to stop the licking. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). The pink discoloraction of the fur is usually a result of saliva staining from chronic licking. Often, there is an underlying reason for them to be licking themselves such as food or environmental allergies or an infection of the skin. Sometimes dogs can lick though even when there is no underlying disease in the skin causing them to be itchy. This compulsive licking could sometimes be referred to inanimate objects like couches. Ideally, I would have Molly's skin evaluated by a veterinarian to rule out any underlying disease/infection. Best of luck.

Frequent licking generally indicates irritation or infection. Licking around the genital area can also indicate a urinary tract infection. I suspect the discoloring of her skin is related to the licking although some pet's skin will darken as they mature. I would recommend to make an appointment with her vet to have her skin examined and her urine tested to make sure everything is normal. At home, you can wash the areas daily with an antibacterial soap and rinse it well - be careful not put soap in her vulva (vagina). This will help to clean off the skin. There can be many causes of skin irritation or infection including bacterial infections, environmental allergies, food allergies and flea allergies. From that picture her cycle looks inverted which can trap bacteria and create more of an infection. I would get the infection cleared with antibiotics and wipe it every time she uses the bathroom. If it is severe enough there is a surgery they can do help correct the folds and prevent some of these issues. If her face and ears are not itching also I would be hesitant to call it a good allergy. I would however look into Apoquel for environmental allergies
