My dog licked diluted bleach. What are the risks and next steps?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Domestos contains bleach. If it is not ultra concentrated and it was very dilute then the outcome is better. Usually symptoms start with in mins: drooling, red lips, irritation around the mouth, pawing around the mouth and vomiting if a lot is consumed. Bleach is corrosive causing irritation of the gums, esophagus and stomach. If the bleach you use is ultra concentrated then Harley should see a vet immediately. Otherwise if Harley got the bleach on his fur, bathe him in lots of water and mild soap. Rinse his mouth out with lots of water and encourage him to drink water. You can add chicken broth, tuna juice and even try some milk to encourage drinking. If he starts to show symptoms despite the above he should see a Vet. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

She may be fine, but I will give you some thinks you can do for her. First, give her a small bowl of milk. This may help neutralize any bleach present. Then check her mouth, see if you can see any redness in her mouth. If you do, she will need to see a vet. Otherwise, keep an eye on her. Well, it isn't good that Nilo licked bleach. Bleach is caustic, and it can cause oral and esophageal burns. Rinse his mouth out with water, and examine his mouth to see if you see any signs of burns. It's unlikely that one lick will cause serious problems, but monitor him for now. If he develops GI upset with excessive vomiting, bloody vomit, not eating and drinking, or dark tarry stools, he will need to see a vet immediately.

The chances of Teddy having any problem is unlikely with such a small amount. You did good by diluting it out with water. If you have milk of magnesia, you can also give him 0.5mL (approximately 1/8 teaspoon) of that to also help him. The biggest concern is him developing oral ulcers or esophageal ulcers. Watch him closely to make sure he is eating, drinking and acting normally over the next few days. If anything abnormal is noticed, have your vet take a look at him. I hope this helps!

This solution would be pretty nasty tasting & a little irritating, so if you have not noticed any drooling or salivating at this point, then she will be fine. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Bleach can severely irritate the gastrointestinal system even causing a chemical burn depending on the product used. While there is not an antidote, there are medications that can help with the symptoms that are simply not over the counter. For that reason, it is recommended that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to examine him, gather more information and decide how to treat him next. I am hoping for a speedy recovery!

I wouldn't worry too much. Bleach residue would at-most cause irritation to her skin or mucous membranes. As long as she's not in a heavily bleached room, the fumes would not be enough to cause any problems. Once bleach dries, it is rather safe and I would not worry about having her in the parts of the house where the bleach was. Large dog kennels at places like shelters and veterinary clinics are routinely cleaned with bleach without incident. I would only be worried if she drank bleach.
