My dog is lethargic with a swollen teat after puppies. Should I worry?

I agree, Mazi's mammary glands do look quite swollen. This can be a sign of mastitis, which is an infection of the mammary glands. Mastitis is very serious. I would take her into a vet asap to get this checked out. As for bottle feeding the puppies, weigh them daily and if they aren't gaining weight, they do need to be bottle fed. There are a couple of things that could be wrong with your dog. She could be pregnant causing her swollen nipples and making her feel ill. It could be that she has mammary tumors also causing these symptoms. If she had puppies recently, she could have mastitis (an infection of the mammary glands). Finally, she could have a pyometra which is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. Because both mastitis and a pyometra are fatal without treatment, and since I can't see her in person to rule them out, I think it's best that she sees a vet right away. In an older dog a swelling like this around the teat is most often a mammary lump. 50% are benign and 50% cancerous in dogs. They can be closely linked to hormones hence the fluctuation in size. Other causes would be mastitis or mammary development, but this photo does look like a lump. It can be tested by the vet to know what sort it is.

Yes, I would take Lulu into the vet just to be safe. The color of her teats could be due to so many puppies nursing, but mastitis can occur in nursing dogs, which is fatal without treatment. I certainly see what you mean about the swelling around Roo's ear! It could be a swollen lymph node, which is an indication of infection. Given that it's on one side and she is eating slowly, it could be that she has a tooth root abscess on that right side leading to the swollen lymph node and slow eating. The warm ears could be due to a fever but also an ear infection. Given her multitude of symptoms, it would be best that Roo is seen by a vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing all her symptoms and can treat her accordingly. Because she has been lethargic since Wednesday, it's best that she is seen by a vet tomorrow.

I can certainly understand being concerned about Tulip! Lethargy is a very general sign of illness, and it can be caused by systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. I would keep an eye on her tonight, and if she is still acting this way in the morning I would take her into a vet first thing for a health check.

Multiple swellings are always a concern and can indicate internal illnesses and lymph node enlargement. A full physical exam, blood tests and samples of the swelling may be required especially with the lethargy and pain
