My dog is lethargic, won't eat, and won't move. Is it an emergency?

These are signs that he is either in a great deal of pain, or is very sick. There could be many possible causes of this, so it's difficult to say what exactly this means, or how easily this can be treated, but it's worth a visit to the vet. The vet will be able to help narrow-down the cause and at-least give treatment to make him feel better. Given his current condition, I reccomend he go to the vet within the next 24 hours. Hello, sorry to hear about Bob. There are many reasons why he may not be eating and acting lethargic. A temperature of 102 is normal for a dog. Potential causes include a dietary indiscretion (getting into something that did not sit well with him), ingesting foreign material, having a viral infection or parasites, having pancreatitis, liver or kidney disease. If his signs persists longer than 3 days, or if he gets worse, then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Unfortunately lethargy is a very common sign of many illnesses, which can include systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. While it's good that she's eating, going to the bathroom, and walking normal, I think for your piece of mind it would be a good idea to take her into a hospital tonight. Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Ginger evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Oh no, I'm sorry Ziggy isn't doing well at all Edye and Chris! Based on the symptoms you have described, I wouldn't rush him into the ER vet tonight. It can be worrying that he has had minimal appetite today and is lethargic, but not eating or drinking for 3.5 hours isn't concerning just yet. You are correct that it could be his belly upsetting him, and I would monitor him overnight. Should he still not be eating or drinking in the morning, or if he is still lethargic, then I would take Ziggy into the vet. Over the night, if he starts vomiting, having diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, then yes I would take him into an ER vet. Hopefully he just has an upset stomach and will feel better in the morning. You can try offering him some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts to see if that tempts him to eat. I hope this helps and Ziggy feels better soon!

This is an emergency. If you suspect a pesticide you should call the pet poison control helpline. Otherwise, when I see older animals present this way through the ER I am very worried about abdominal bleeding from a tumor. I would not wait. He should be see by a vet ASAP.
