My dog is lethargic, won't eat, hides, and has pain or nausea.

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed

My dog seems lathargic and has lost the appetite. She also laid under a bed and in her cage the whole day . She seems in pain but I don’t know what is causing it. She is also licking her lips a lot and looks like she is having trouble digesting something . Is this goodbye ?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I am sorry to hear that Honey is not feeling well. It sounds as though Honey is quite nauseous with her licking her lips. There are many possible causes of what you are describing and because of that, I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would recommend starting with an examination and then having her blood tested to see if there are any concerning changes on her blood test. This may not be her time to go yet as she may have something treatable such as an infection. I hope this helps and that Honey gets better soon! However, regardless of what caused these symptoms, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her. She may be dehydrated and in need of fluids, which the veterinarian can evaluate her for. It sounds like he needs immediate care if he is not eating, he is lethargic and may have a fever. This sounds like a serious condition that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Your veterinarian will perform a full physical exam and determine what additional testing may need to be done (xrays, bloodwork) to give you a better idea of what treatments are needed. Good luck.

Vomiting, drooling and inappetence can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Peanut evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check her hydration status and give her medications to make her feel better. Good luck!

Possibilities are many including pancreatitis, a toxicity, an infection, among many others. I highly recommend that you have Josephine evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid that this could be something serious. Why is my old Pomeranian lethargic, not eating, and licking lips?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear that Spunky is lethargic and has a decreased appetite. Her lip licking may indicate that she is nauseous, and this could be contributing to her decreased appetite. Since she is an older girl, I recommend having her seen by your veterinarian at their next available appointment. He/she can do an exam and may recommend bloodwork to determine if there is any underlying liver or kidney disease that could be contributing to her clinical signs. In the meantime, you can try to offer her a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger and rice, in a ratio of 2 parts rice to 1 part meat. I hope this is helpful - best of luck with Spunky!

Senior dog lethargic, not eating, hiding, and coughing. What to do?

I am concerned with her health based on your description. She could have some serious systemic disease (kidney failure, liver failure, cancer, etc.), heart disease, serious infection, etc. I would strongly recommend having her seen by a veterinarian and have her blood tested to help better determine what the problem could be. I am sorry you are going through this and I sure hope Ivy gets better soon. She may need to be hospitalized depending on what the problem is. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
