My dog is lethargic, not eating or drinking. What should I do now?

The weight loss and the not eating may indicate a disease state. At 12 years old, things like kidney disease and cancer become more worrisome. I recommend to have Stitch examined by the veterinarian and plan on running some diagnostics to go looking for any problems. Best of luck.

I'm sorry to hear that Twinkle hasn't been feeling well today. I would recommend that he is seen by his veterinarian. There may be something on the physical exam that will point to a diagnosis such as joint pain. He may also need laboratory work to determine the cause of this sudden change in him. Encourage him to continue drinking water so he does not become dehydrated. You can offer him food, but stay with his normal diet. Good luck!

To be honest, the increased drinking and appetite worry me more than the diarrhea and itching. That combination can signal diabetes (needs attention right away) or a different hormone disease called Cushing’s disease (is inconvenient but will need to be managed). The diarrhea and itching are another layer of complication which may or may not be related to the other two. Either way, I’d say ER vet tomorrow is ideal, though since he is clearly eating and drinking, it is not wrong to wait the extra 24 hours to see your regular vet. Best wishes to you and Stitch!

Irati is exhibiting symptoms of illness. Lethargy and loss of appetite are non specific symptoms with many causes. To determine the cause, she should be examined by your veterinarian. She may need bloodwork and a fecal exam to reach a diagnosis. Supportive care may be indicated until she is eating and drinking on her own.

Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Dexter evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Stress could cause this. Without knowing what the vet checked for or if any tests were run, it would be hard to say what is going on, however. You can try to entice some eating and drinking by adding a little boiled chicken or low-sodium chicken broth to Clifford's diet, however if he doesn't perk up in a day, or seems to worsen, talking with your vet again to see if any additional tests would be beneficial is best for finding out what is wrong.

This sounds very peculiar especially in such a young pup. I would be worried that he has a fever, and it would be important to check. If so, I would be suspicious of polyarthritis due to sepsis, lyme disease or other tick born diseases. Common conditions I see in young pups are pancreatitis, gastrointestinal parasites, and gastroenteritis. A good physical exam would be helpful. A painful abdomen, a positive fecal exam etc would help to narrow down what is going on.
