My Chihuahua's legs are frozen; why is she in pain and won't move?

Poor Lily! It sounds like she could be suffering from back/neck pain or muscle spasms. I would have your vet take a look at her as soon as possible. It is common in small breed dogs and can be excruciatingly painful. It starts as a reluctance to walk or move, the dog will avoid stairs and is hesitant to jump on furniture. It is common for the appetite to be decreased and the dog to pant and shake. It can progress to weakness or even paralysis of a limb. So it is best to address it as soon as possible if this is the cause of her symptoms. In the meantime, keep her very quiet and carry her when she needs to move. I agree, it does sound like poor Chiquita is in pain. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck.

I recommend that you have Sprinkles evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Sprinkles feel better. In the meantime, reduce her activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference. This looks like a neurological problem from a pinched nerve in her neck. I recommend a veterinary exam and she may need muscle relaxers and anti inflammatory medication. This is serious and without treatment this could get worse and she may not walk again. In the meantime I would straighten the legs into a normal position and help her stand on them properly. Oh no. Poor girl : ( It sounds like Dixie is experiencing some pretty painful musculoskeletal disorder, which can be either her back or hip area. I would highly recommend taking her to your local vet for pain control medication right away. There are no safe options over the counter that we can recommend here so it is best to have her seen. The vet will also likely recommend x-rays of her back and hips to properly identify the underlying problem so that we know for sure we are on the right course of treatment for her. Hi. I'm sorry Chupa hurt herself. If she is dragging her rear legs she needs to be seems by a vet asap. She may have a back or spinal cord injury. If she can stand and move both legs she may be ok with a bit of rest but if she is dragging her legs at all or wobbly on them then she needs to be checked by a vet. In the meantime don't let her jump up or down on furniture, make sure to carry her up and down stairs and keep her confined to a small area or crate. I hope Chupa is better soon.
