My dog's leg wound is worsening, filled with liquid. Is it serious?

This wound requires an immediate check up and possibly a stitch up as it seems infected and it is unlikely that will heal without immediate intervention. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely infected. I think it would be best to have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check the extent of the wounds and see what would be best to treat them. What you can do in the meantime is use an e-collar in the to prevent further injury. This appears to be a wound but I am unsure as to where on the body it is located since the photo is zoomed in. Based on its appearance, I would recommend getting Charlie in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made. The longer this goes unseen, the more risk there is for infection. I would recommend having this evaluated and potentially putting Charlie on antibiotics and pain medications to help treat this. Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). Like most bite wounds, this one has gotten infected because bacteria was introduced below the skin, forming an abscess. Remy is in good spirits now, and that is good, but if this isn't treated by your vet it can become a systemic infection and cause major illness. Remy needs to have the wound drained, flushed, potentially sutured closed because it is open below the superficial layer of skin, and then placed on antibiotics. Therefore, yes he will need to be seen by your vet to have this wound properly cared for. I hope that he gets this resolved soon. Take care.

Please have Ann examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER today. That wound will likely need to be explored and debrided surgically. This will require anesthesia. A culture/sensitivity and biopsy of the area should be submitted as well. The C&S will identify any bacteria as well as the best antibiotic to use in treatment. Even though she was on antibiotics, if the bacteria was not susceptible to them, they would be ineffective. A biopsy will rule out neoplasia (cancer). Either can cause delayed healing or non-healing. If infection gets into the bone, it could turn into a life threatening condition. Place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent licking until she sees a doctor.
