My dog has a leg growth. Should I get a second opinion for cancer?

The problem with big lumps is that they get affect her movement. Without seeing Bell in person, I can't say for certain what I would do, but personally I would recommend having them removed before they get bigger. You can take her into another vet to get a second opinion. I hope this helps.

Hi there. Let me see if I can help you with Sophia. I would definitely make a future appointment so that your vet can get a good look at the growth. It may just be a small cyst, but could always be something more. From the photo it doesn't look like it is open or oozing, so as long as it's not bothering her - she isn't scratching/chewing/licking at it, I would monitor it until you can get her in to see someone. If it happens to be a worrisome growth that needs removal and a biopsy your vet can get that all set. As long as everything else is ok, just get her in for the next available appointment to check the growth. Best of luck.

Hi there and thank you for your post! From your pictures this looks typical of a benign wart like growth thay we see in older dogs. The most common we see is what is called a sebaceous adenoma. Basically a benign growth of the glands in the skin. However, that being said, it requires more than just looking at it to diagnose it. If you want a more specific accurate diagnosis, the most accurate way is to have it removed and to send it out for histopathology (A test to determine what it is). Your vet can also perform an FNA test where a needle is inserted into the mass and looked at under the microscope. If Honey has bad teeth and is in need of a dental cleaning, you could have this removed at the same time and sent out for testing. Let me know if you have any other concerns!

Discuss your dog's quality of life with your family and vet. Consider xrays and bloodwork to diagnose the cause of the weight loss. A biopsy of the area at the hind end may also provide information which could aid you with this difficult decision. It could be a treatable infection. A second opinion is not a bad idea in this situation, especially if your dog is eating and "happy".

Looking at the photo and considering your description of the progression of this, I would suspect that it is a growing mass. It could simply be a fatty lump such as a lipoma. Other possibilities would be a soft tissue swelling due to trauma, but this seems less likely considering the progression. I would head to the vet and get them to test the lump to see exactly what it is. If it is just a lipoma and not causing bother it should not need to be removed.

Dogs do get malignant nail bed tumors. This area does look angry and it certainly could be a malignant tumor. If you wish to be cautious you can get a second opinion from a veterinary oncologist or another veterinarian. It's difficult to get a good sample from this area so your veterinarian is correct to recommend a toe amputation. Since Hailey is young there is a chance that this is an infection also. You could try a course of antibiotics for a couple of weeks to see if it heals. If the mass continues to enlarge then I would definitely remove the toe as if it's a malignant melanoma they do spread and it could go into her lungs which is a life threatening condition. Hi again and thanks for sending the pic to us. In this case this lump seems to be a tumor and would need ideally to be checked by your local veterinarian to differentiate in between benign and more sinister ones. The lump seems big enough to be able to take a fine needle aspirate from it without using local or general anesthetic. A small needle can be inserted inside the lump to get some cells out and analyse them.
