My dog on Lasix has incontinence and blood in urine. Is this normal?

It sounds as though Ruby may be developing an infection in the urinary tract as the cause for blood in the urine. This can be very common in dogs with urinary incontinence, even while on medication. I do not recommend stopping the Estradiol. However, Ruby does need to be examined by your veterinarian and have a urinalysis as soon as possible. If her urinalysis shows bacterial infection she will likely need a course of antibiotics and possibly a safe anti-inflammatory medication for pain.

It's normal for there to be some blood in the urine with a UTI, however passing clots is not very common. If the vet didn't take x-rays or do an ultrasound of he bladder, I'd recommend going back for another appointment to check and make sure he doesn't have a stone - that's not something we always do in the first go around, but blood clots would make me concerned.

Blood in the urine is never normal, even if it only occurs intermittently. Likewise, it’s unusual for Tilly to experience so much inconsistency in her urination habits. Some young female dogs can have recessed or hooded vulvas, which can make them more prone to developing urinary tract infections. However, since Tilly’s urine has twice not shown evidence of infection, it sounds as though it’s time to look in a different direction. I would start by asking your vet if they can take x-rays of her abdomen to check for evidence of bladder stones. The crystals associated with bladder stones often show up on a urinalysis (I’m assuming that’s what was done with her urine samples), but not always. If the X-rays are clear, your next step may be an ultrasound of her bladder with a veterinary radiologist to check for any other abnormalities. Bladder tumors can also cause similar signs, although that would be highly unlikely given how young Tilly is. I hope this helps and that you can find some answers soon!

I'm sorry to hear Harris is having this issue. Blood in the urine can have a variety of causes, including infection, bladder or kidney stones, a sterile bladder inflammatory process, a growth, prostate issues, or an underlying medical issue. I would recommend he be evaluated by a veterinarian, have any necessary testing done (urinalysis, bloodwork, bladder ultrasound), and try to isolate the cause of his issue to come up with any treatment that may be needed. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely due to the surgery to some extent. Some degree of blood in the urine would be expected but not a lot. I do think that it warrants re-evaluation by the veterinarian who did the surgery to make sure that there is nothing wrong going on with the incision or surgical site as those are complicated surgeries. Hi there. Anti-fungal medications would not cause bloody urine, so this is likely a separate problem. She may have a recurrence of her bladder stones, a UTI, or some other issue. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam to determine the cause of the blood and see what kind of treatment is needed.

Diarrhea can be the result of an intestinal infection, dietary indiscretion (eating something that upset her gastrointestinal tract), inflammation or even stress. Bloody urine is typically due to a bladder infection, bladder stones, a primary bleeding disorder or in rare cancers bladder cancer. She will need to see her veterinarian for urine and fecal testing as she will likely require medication to treat her issues. I hope this information helps!
