Is it safe to put canned pumpkin in my dog's Kong toy for treats?

A great treat is to take Sara's kibble or wet food, get it wet and mixed into a slurry, and then freeze it into the Kong. You could also mix a small amount of peanut butter with her dry food and then stuff the contents into the Kong. You could also freeze the Kong so it takes more time for her to get the material out of the Kong.

If the majority of your pups diet is a good quality puppy food ( at least 80% ), then you can supplement with the sweet potatoes, vegetables (?), & only a very small amount of pumpkin. Pumpkin has a lot of fiber, so restrict this so as not to cause a loose stool. Also, make sure it is canned, or cooked pumpkin, & not pumpkin pie filling. Take care.

Pumpkin is good because it adds fiber to the diet leading to regular defecation, and when a dog has regular stools, that helps express the anal sacs. In fact, pumpkin is recommended to give to dogs when they are constipated. For her digestive health and anal sacs, pumpkin would be the best to give her, but as a treat, you can switch out to another tablespoon of veggies every now and then :-)

Great question! There are lots of things that you can put inside a Kong toy for puppies to chew on. Personally, I like peanut butter for this purpose, or canned puppy food - you can also freeze the Kong after stuffing it, so that it takes longer for Ghontu to get the food out. You can also put her regular kibble inside, then put a bit of peanut butter over the opening to seal it in. What healthy treats to give your pup, good job! I would rotate between the greens and pumpkin, and the fruit at night. Keep in mind that too much fiber can make your dog constipated, so it's best to avoid giving her too much :-)
