My dog is itchy from allergies. Can I use Gold Bond powder on her?

Unfortunately, I can't advise you to use any specific products on your dog's skin without seeing her to get an idea of what's wrong - for certain skin conditions, the ingredients in the baby powder could do more harm than good by causing more irritation. There are some over-the-counter anti-itch sprays (usually containing cortisone or some other topical steroid) that are labeled for use in dogs - you can try one of these products if you wish. Aloe and oatmeal pet shampoos can also be soothing for irritated skin. If this doesn't help the itching, I would recommend having your dog examined by a vet - itchy skin and irritation can be caused by a number of different things, including seasonal allergies, external parasites like fleas, a bacterial or fungal infection, or skin mites (mange). Your vet can do a simple test called a skin scrape to check for some of these problems, and prescribe an effective medication for treatment depending on what they find.

That scrubs is fine to use on the feet as a cleaner daily. You can also apply cortisone cream or medicated powder in between the toes to help keep them clean and dry. If it continues you may want to talk to your vet about a food trial for food allergies or environmental allergens to prevent further occurrences.

Benadryl can be given to dogs to treat allergies but it is always best to check with your vet before giving medications. Since your vet knows your dogs complete medical history, he/she would know if there is a contraindication to giving any medications. Dogs with allergies can also develop secondary bacterial infection that may require an antibiotic, corticosteroid, and/or an anti-histamine to treat. If her signs persist or worsen then she should be seen by a vet to determine the best way to treat. There is also an allergy medication called Apoquel that works very well in controlling allergies in dogs. You could also switch to a completely hypoallergenic diet, like z/d, and see if that helps, too. Bathing her with a medicated dog shampoo, like Epi-Soothe, may also help.

It does look like Toffee’s foot has been quite itchy, and she could have a secondary skin infection so I think it’s a great idea to see the vet. Unfortunately antihistamines usually do not help much with itchy skin in dogs, and this would be an overdose of diphenhydramine for a small dog like Toffee so I wouldn’t recommend giving it. You could try soaking her foot in some Epsom salts for 5-10 minutes to see if that helps with comfort.

First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy.
