Charlotte could have a bacterial infection of her skin. Some cases respond to a topical treatment like a medicated pet shampoo but others need antibiotics. Charlotte has hives all over her and is likely experiencing an allergic reaction. Likely the vomiting and diarrhea are all part of the reaction. Sometimes we never know the cause, but insect or spider bites are common. The mainstay of treatment are antihistamines and steroids. Likely she should be put on metronidazole for her diarrhea as well. I would call your Vet back and ask to have her seen today. This is likely to be due to an infective pododermatitis. It is possible that the generalized infection is actually due to an underlying predisposing allergy. Hi there. What you are describing is suspicious of allergies. While I always recommend that my clients get a skin scrape first to make sure there are no mites, etc, if this is negative we begin the journey to diagnosing the possible allergens. Many dogs have flea allergies. If your pet is up to date on a good flea preventative, this is not as likely. Commonly, dogs can develop food allergies over time as well. The worst part of checking for this is that a true food trial (a new specialized diet) has to be the ONLY thing you feed and can take a few months to see real resorts. Allergy medications are available now through your veterinarian's office. Depending on what they see on physical exam, your pet might be. The licking and scratching can result from underlying allergies to fleas, food, or environmental factors, in addition to mange, ringworm, or even vaginitis or a urinary tract infection in this case since Winter has some yellow vulvar discharge. Discomfort from itchiness can lead to a decreased appetite, and underlying allergies can also cause bloodshot eyes. At this point, your best bet is to take Winter to her vet for evaluation since she may need to have a urinalysis to determine if a urinary tract infection is present, as well as antibiotics and anti-itch medications or medicated shampoos to help manage her skin issues. Also be sure that she is receiving a high quality flea and tick preventative, such as Nexgard or K9 Advantix II (she is both old enough and large enough for either of these medications) in case fleas are part of the problem.
