What's making my dog's inner thigh redder and darker than the other?

From the pictures you have provided, it appears as though there is some hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) and erythema (redness). This may be due to allergies or from friction / chaffing in that region. I have seen this occur in dogs that are very active but on the front legs, not the back legs. I would recommend starting a shampoo such as Douxo PS with chlorhexidine shampoo and bathe twice weekly until this skin condition resolves. I would also apply a spray such as Malacetic Conditioning spray 2-3 times per day until resolved. If Muffin has been licking at this area, I would strongly recommend buying a plastic cone (elizabethan collar) to keep Muffin from licking / chewing at this area. If there is no improvement then I would suggest having Muffin's veterinarian examine this area and perform some additional testing to help determine what this could be so that the most appropriate treatment can be recommended. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking(if any).

Hello. This is very typical of an allergic dermatitis reaction. Your treatment is appropriate so just continue until the skin is fully healed. Then, at the first sign of it coming back, start the cream again. You should also contact your veterinarian to see if the newer anti-allergy medications like Apoquel or Cytopoint would be appropriate to prevent these flare ups from happening. It's a little odd that it is only on one side of the belly/leg. The rust color looks like saliva staining from your dog licking more frequently. The brown spots are likely clogged pores. I would work with your vet to treat itching (making sure he is on a good-quality flea preventative), food allergies, atopy, etc. You can also ask for a benzoyl peroxide dog shampoo to help flush the pores.

She may be coming into heat which could be causing her to feel irritated down there, making her scratch which damages tge skin barrier and can cause skin infection. Or alternatively she has simply got a skin infection. The skin does look inflamed and the dark pigment could just be natural colour change or it could caused by yeast. She looks sore so I would have the vet examine her and determine exactly what microbes ate present in the area and then decide how best to treat. She may just need an antinflammatory or antihistamine but I suspect she will also require an antimicrobial.

This looks like normal pigmentation to me however it could also be post inflammatory hyperpigmentation from an infection. I wouldn’t be overly worried but I suggest you use these medicated wipes on the pigmented areas daily for 7-10 days. If no change then it’s either normal or you should have your vet check it.
