My dog's paw is injured, he can't walk and keeps licking it. Vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shiba Inu | Male | neutered

Hello, My shiba inu is injured. Is this normal should I bring him to see a vet? He can't walk properly since two days but is raining outside and his paw is always wet. I tried to put polysporin but he keep licking his paws. What should I do? Thank you in advance! :)

I would recommend taking Maru to a veterinarian. It is hard to determine if that was a puncture wound, an abrasion from licking or a growth. After a physical examination, the veterinarian can determine if it is something to be concerned about.

Until you can get Maru to a veterinarian I would recommend placing an Elizabethan collar on Maru to prevent him from licking at it.

I hope Maru feels better soon and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
