My dog is pregnant by her son. Are there risks for mom or puppies?

I think my female maybe pregnant by her son is there any risks in may face with her

Inbreeding can sometimes cause birth defects in the puppies, which may be a problem down the line, however the incidence is relatively low. If you suspect your female is pregnant it is best to have her examined by your veterinarian to determine the pregnancy and the health of mom and puppies. A typical pregnancy lasts around 63 days in a dog. It is also a good idea to get both your male and female spayed and neutered if you do not wish to have further litters to prevent accidents from occurring again in the future.

Most dogs will have uneventful pregnancies regardless of stud unless there is a size discrepancy. The concern is for genetic defects due to inbreeding. Spay and neuter them to prevent unwanted or accidental litters in the future.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Love Love is mated to a male dog and becomes pregnant, she will be pregnant for about 63 days. As long as she remains healthy, she will have puppies after this time. Not spaying your female dog increases the risk of pyometra, which is an infected uterus, which is a life-threatening emergency. There can also be issues at the time of birthing, such as dystocia, which is when a puppy gets stuck in the birth canal and cannot get out. This is also a surgical emergency. Intact (unspayed) female dogs are also at increased risk of mammary or breast cancer, which can be malignant and aggressive. I hope you will consider having Love Love spayed to eliminate these risks. There are also many dogs in shelters that are available for adoption, so adding more puppies to the world takes a home away from one of the dogs already in an animal shelter. I hope this is helpful!

You are correct that inbreeding can lead to the expression of recessive genes and potential defects, but you won't know for sure until the puppies are born. You do have some options in this case. First off, I'd recommend taking her into the vet to confirm that she is pregnant. If she is, your options are to spay her now and terminate the pregnancy, or have her give birth to the puppies and spay her afterwards. I do recommend spaying her so that she doesn't get pregnant again accidentally. When you take her into the vet, they can discuss these options with you. Ultimately it's your choice whether or not to continue the pregnancy. I hope this helps.

The vet can then see how many puppies she will have and approximately when and how big they will be. 4) The incidence of a c-section is rare , so I would not worry about that now.
