Why does my dog ignore her previous owners after bonding with me?

Great news that Sky is so friendly with new people! Dogs will have favourites in the same way that we will and there is very little you can do to discourage this. Try to spend quality time playing with her and doing some reward training and this may help to refocus her attentions!

Penny has been through a lot lately with moving to a new home with a new owner. When you met her, you likely met her where she was living, so she felt comfortable there and was friendly. She met your parents in a new home that she has not adjusted to yet, so she likely was shy and a little scared. Give her some time, it's ok that she didn't let them pet her. I imagine she will warm up as she becomes more comfortable in your home. Best of luck.

This can certainly be a confusing situation for Pepper, which may explain why he was confused when he returned the last time. If Pepper is going to a bad environment, I would try and talk this over with his previous owner and ensure him that Pepper is much better off in the environment he has been in the longest. Unfortunately, if he gave you temporary care of his dog, technically Pepper still is his dog. You could also ask the man if you could adopt Pepper from him and pay him an "adoption fee" and make it so that if you adopt Pepper, he no longer has ownership and is no longer allowed to take Pepper for visitation. In my opinion this is a reflection of Danny's personality - some dogs are 'one person' dogs who are very attached to one family member. If you adopted another dog it might prefer your wife, or might seem to like everyone equally. You might develop a stronger bond with a new dog if you spend more time training it, but i don't think there is any guarantee that your relationship with a new dog would be the same as it is with Danny.

It's normal for puppies to get more excited over "new" people than with their owners - someone new is a novelty and very exciting :) This does not mean that she doesn't love you. It sounds like she's very closely bonded to you, and everything is going just as it should be. So try not to be offended that she gets more excited about new people than she does over you - she's excited about them because they are new and different.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is obvious how much you love Gabby and I suspect she loves you very much too! Most dogs are very bonded to their owners-especially dogs who have been cared for by the same person for years. There may be a reason that she does not want to stay with you in bed. Where does she go? Does she go straight to tile or wood because the bed is just too warm (my own dog started doing this recently). Do you toss and turn and it bothers Gabby? Does a fan blow on her? Is there a new candle or scent in your room? All these things may be reasons Gabby decides to lay down elsewhere. As with most dogs, you can strengthen your bond by petting and sitting together (try laying with her wherever she likes to lay for a few minutes). Playing with toys and working on training is also excellent for showing her you love her. You are doing a great job! Hope this helps and best of luck to you and Gabby!

I would recommend that you consider having your mom give him treats and as much affection as possible. Usually with treats he will most likely get to like her company more and more.
