Why does my dog hump his blanket? Is it normal or should I stop it?

  Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is completely normal for an in-tact dog (male or female) to hump objects. Many animals do this frequently throughout the day. Blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals are common targets.
  
  You can tell the owner if you wish but it is not something you can really stop unless he gets neutered.

  Humping/mounting behavior is normal sexual behavior in dogs. Some experts think they are practicing for when they are old enough to mate.. You can try to destract your dog with a toy, toss a ball, give him a chewie, or ask him to perform a previously learned obedience skill (sit, lay down, shake, etc). You should consider neutering him. Sometimes neutering doesn’t always stop the humping behavior, but it will most likely reduce it. Hope this has helped. Thank you for using pet coach.
