My dog feels hot and tired. Is it a fever? Should I see a vet?

It sounds like from your description that Doc Brown is sick, and I would be thinking that he could be suffering from a respiratory infection or allergies. Feeling sick would lead him to be more irritable as well, and it is possible he could have a fever. A dog's normal temperature is 101-102.5F, and anything above 102.5F is a fever. I'd have him seen by a vet in the next day or two. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can prescribe medication to treat him. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

If your dog had been exercising or out in the heat it is possible his temperature could have increased due to this, but 104.1 is a pretty high temperature if you feel it was truly an accurate reading. We can see dogs temperatures get that high if they are really hot/excited/stressed and they are overweight or brachycephalic (smoosh faced) but I am concerned that his energy level was decreased. If he still doesn't seem himself tomorrow then I would bring him in for an exam. If overnight his temperature gets very high again, or he becomes weak, has trouble breathing, or his gums become pale in color or he starts having other symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea then I would consider bringing him in to the emergency vet.

It sounds like BeR is not feeling well. Just like people, there are many conditions that can make pets feel sick. This could range from bacterial over growth to intestinal blockage. Also like us, diseases are best addressed early and this may result in a better prognosis. You need to monitor your pup closely. If he is not eating or drinking well, if there is vomiting/diarrhea/coughing or signs of pain, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian today. If the lethargy lasts for 24 hours, your pup also needs to be examined. The doctor will need to learn the underlying cause in order to give appropriate treatment. Bring in a stool sample in case the doctor needs to test it. At home, your pup should rest today so no walks or playtime. Encourage eating and drinking. Fluid intake is very important when pets and people don't feel good. You may try offering a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice (this should all be plain). It sounds like he needs immediate care if he is not eating, he is lethargic and may have a fever. This sounds like a serious condition that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. It sounds as Rupertt is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Nancy may just be very tired from her play session, sore from the exercise, or be sick from some illness or heat stress. Since we don't know what is causing her lethargy, I cannot recommend any medications. You can take a rectal temperature with a human thermometer. If it is over 102.5 then she has a fever and should be checked out by a vet. If she does not have a fever, then monitor her for 24 hours. If she is still lethargic then she should be checked out by a vet.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Biggie! I don't personally hold much stock in nose dryness/wetness or the temperature of the nose. To know if Biggie has a fever you need to take his temperature rectally with a digital thermometer. A fever in a dog is anything over 102.5 F. There are many causes for a poor appetite: Viral infection, foreign body, fever from infection or inflammation, intestinal parasites (the eggs are microscopic and can not be seen in the stool unless adult worms are passed), pain and many many other causes. Try taking Biggie's temperature. If he has a fever I recommend making an appointment today with your Vet. I hope this helps and I wish Biggie a speedy recovery!
